James M. Foote
Outstanding Alumnus

A 1969 Boiling Springs graduate, Jim was a standout multi-sport athlete who quarterbacked the Bubblers to their first Blue Mountain League football title and led the baseball team to a league championship the same year. He continued his career on scholarship at Delaware Valley College, starting four years at punter and three at quarterback.

Drafted in the final round of the 1973 NFL draft by the New York Jets, he spent three years in the league with the Jets, Oilers, and Buccaneers, backing up established quarterbacks and earning the Houston starting job for the 1974 preseason, where he led the team to a winning record.

Later, as a high school coach at Rosehill Academy and Tomball Christian Academy in Texas, he helped Tomball reach the state tournament five times. About 15 years ago he joined Weekends with Warriors, a foundation dedicated to combating veteran suicide, where he serves on the national Board of Directors and, as an ordained minister since 1984, as National Chaplain.

Jim recently retired as a student management specialist with the Comal Independent School District, where he worked with student discipline and continued his lifelong commitment to developing godly young men.

Steve Knisely
Township & Community Service

A lifelong resident of South Middleton Township, Steve found many ways to give back to his community. Steve served on the Township Parks and Rec Board, was a member of the Alumni Association, and was a Youth Group Leader at Otterbein United Methodist Church. He was a coach for the Pony/Midget Youth Football Program, coached South Middleton Legion baseball, helped to establish and coach the South Middleton Parks and Recreation Youth Girls Basketball program, and was a referee for the High School Boys Basketball.

As a third-generation owner and operator of Knisely’s Pet and Farm Center, Steve was a volunteer with the Cumberland County 4-H program and was a volunteer for the Cumberland County Animal Response Team (CART) and the PA State Animal Response Team (START).
His daughter, Ashley, who was his nominator, said, “He didn’t just live in this community; he poured his heart into it. He helped to shape the spirit of the place we call home. His love for this community was steady, unwavering, and deeply felt by so many.”

Kurt Uhler
South Middleton School District/Township Professional or Support Personnel

A graduate of Boiling Springs High School and an employee of South Middleton Township for three decades, Kurt has been a dedicated employee. Currently, as Township Director of Public Works, he has excelled in providing for the welfare, safety, and security of township residents, tirelessly ensuring the immediate integrity of its public roads and bridges and, through long-term planning, the stewardship of taxpayers’ money in their upkeep. Kurt has been instrumental in the planning and development of the township’s expansive and renowned public parks and trail system. Kurt has also volunteered as a local youth coach. He is also a veteran, having served with honor and distinction in the US Army.
